Alexa is the virtual assistant that lives inside the Echo. Setting up Alexa with your online calendars can let the device speak out the appointments you have for the day, or add events and reminders to your calendars.
This relationship with Alexa works both ways to help you plan your day. You just have to ask a polite “Alexa, what’s on my calendar today?” But more on the commands later. Let’s first connect Alexa to the online calendars it supports!
How to Connect Alexa to an Online Calendar
Alexa supports iCloud Calendar, Google Calendar, Microsoft Office 365 Calendars, and Microsoft Outlook.com Calendar. You can link Alexa to only one calendar at a time. Any other member of your Amazon Household can also link their calendar accounts to Alexa.
- Launch the Alexa app on your smartphone.
- Go to the Hamburger icon on the top left and select Settings.
- Select Calendar.
- Tap and choose your calendar account from the list of supported providers.
- Select the Link option, and follow the on-screen instructions to allow Alexa to access your calendar.
You have to enable two-factor authentication for the iCloud Calendar. Do pay attention to the message that says anyone with access to your Alexa devices can ask about events on your linked calendars. You may have multiple calendars for each account like “Personal” or “Work”. The last step allows you to select the one calendar for scheduling your day.
It’s done. Now, you have allowed Alexa into the sanctum of your calendar. Ask Alexa to tell or remind you when your next appointment or holiday is. Don’t forget that Alexa is smart — you can add an event via Alexa by speaking out aloud. For instance: “Create a meeting named [event name] with [person’s name].”
